Single Session Therapy (SST)

What is Single Session Therapy?

Single Session Therapy is a an evidence informed, client focused counselling session. The focus of the session is your greatest worry, challenge of difficulty and what you want to achieve from your meeting. My aim is for you to leave the session with some ideas or strategies to try out.

The mindset for SST
• Being ready to take care of business now (this is important)
• Being realistic about what can be achieved
• Willingess to focus on the selected problem
• Willingness to take responsibility for the selected problem and to work with me to address it.
• Seeing the difference between what can be controlled and what cannot and focusing on the former
• Being prepared to work with me to develop a plan to implement the chosen solution.
• Appreciating the streghts and resources you have and can draw on going forward.

Some changes can take longer however, we human beings are capable of making quick changes too. For the change to occur, three conditions need to be met:
• knowledge of what to do to bring about the change;
• having a committed reason to change, and
• being prepared to accept the costs of change.

For what issues can Single Session Therapy be helpful?

Single Session Therapy can be used for a wide range of issues: life changes, anxiety, depression, managing emotions, managing stress, grief and loss, mental health issues- just to name a few. Single session Therapy can be used for the same reasons than ongoing counselling,  however, we will look for a contained and immediate response to your most pressing concern in this moment.

The process of Single Session Therapy (SST)

Before you attend the session we’ll have 20 min chat on the phone and I will send you a contract/questionnaire to fill out, all to help me to find out more about your main concern and goals for the session. You’ll need to complete the contract/questionnaire and return this to me before you attend your session.

Aims for the session

• Identify your greatest worry/challenge/difficulty and help you to take few steps forward- to get “unstuck”.
• Identify your streghts and resources to make this change happen and achieve your goals.
• Select the possible solution to your problem.
• If helpful, rehearse the solution
• Create an action plan

After your session we’ll arrange a follow up telephone chat to see how you are going and to discuss options for further support, if required. If you feel the single session was sufficient and had met your needs, I will close your file with the understanding that you’re welcome to contact me again at any time in the future.

If this sounds like something suitable for you in this moment in your life, please contact me to book your chat and session. If you have any further questions, do not hesitate to ask!
